AARON SCIANDRA

Aaron is a candidate for a B.F.A. in fine arts/sculpture at Pratt Institute, Brooklyn NY.
The work in this series, "Boys in the Red House," deals with my experiences as a young gay man. I utilize the power and versatility of the photographic image to explore the dynamics of love and isolation in the gay community and in my own life. "Boys in the Red House" is about searching-- for love and companionship, both sexual and non-sexual, as well as searching inside myself.
All of the photographs used in the work are of myself or people who are significant in my life. The nudes in the series deal with vulnerability and the inherently sexual nature of gay society as well as the beauty of the male form. The media used is as varied as the emotions with which it deals. Some of the pieces are purely photography, others use liquid photo emulsion in combination with ink and silver leaf. There is an artist's book and several photo-etchings as well as traditional painting and sculptural techniques.
