Dear Bacon Group, In 1981, at the age of 2I, I visited Bacon's mews studio in South Kensington and left some slides, photos and sketches of my own work and wonder where they are today. Has anyone visted his reconstructed studio in Dublin and seen art works that seem not to be Bacon's (though my work was and still is influenced by Bacon's. I knew him briefly in the early 1980's and my own work is profoundly influenced by his and seek to work through his ideas of making anti-illustrational portraits; one can make a face out of non-rational, arbitary marks but no one today seems to be able to do this; Lucien Freud and Frank Auerbach are still (like the banal David Hockney)are still working within the 19th century illustrative tradition. Hope to hear from felow Bacon buffs; and maybe initiate a Francis Bacon School of Painting.
There must be some artists out there who are influenced by Bacon and his ideas.
Yours sincerely Alex Russell, School of Bacon
