Your exhibition moved me. As a former activist,
I hope that many of the gay men I see today, who are more interested in the next bump of Special K than their civil rights, will take a look at the life of a truly inspirational man; a man who knew how to blend a passion for life and fun with an understanding of the great work that needed to be done. Maybe by seeing this exhibit, they'll realize there is nothing more important than balance. I'm 40 years old, and spent my twenties and thirties alternating between the gay wonderland of Fire Island Pines and the street warfare of ACT-UP. Today, I only see an interest in who is deejaying at the clubs, and what drugs are available. It makes me sad... Moderation and balance have been thrown out, and I think that would make Harvey (though I never knew him) sad as well. I hope this website inspires our gay brothers to find that delicate and so important balance, and to realize there is still much work to be done.
