I've just returned from a visit to San Francisco and am thoroughly enjoying Randy Shilt's bio on Harvey, The Mayor of Castro Street. I visited City Hall, and expected some sort of memorial honoring the slain Supervisor Milk and Mayor Moscone. I was disappointed to find neither.
Unfortunately, at eh time I wasn't aware of the Harvey portrait that now graces his former residence and missed seeing that. Since I'm a NYC resident, I must check out the Harvey Milk Institute and see what other info and pictures exist of this important Gay Rights leader.
Every time I read of the Court Case surrounding Dan White I am infuriated. That is a landmark case of flagrant miscarriage of justice and homophobia. May we all learn from this dark period of history and continue to carry the torch Harvey lit in the struggle for gay rights.
