The Shockwave presentation of "Stones" had an unexpected impact on me. It brought me to a new understanding of the prejudice that gay men/women/couples suffer at the hands of the same testosterone-laden males who cat-call and whistle at women. I drew a parallel between the experiences of the couple in the poem and the experiences of women all over the world who think twice before going out alone, who constantly look over their shoulders to see who's coming, and feel threatened by men who assault them with a "hey baby" or "nice a**." The feeling of having been attacked and belittled seems to be the same for both. I don't know what can be done about it, but seeing Brian's expression of the emotions attached to these verbal attacks, struck a nerve with me and helped me to better understand the nature of gay prejudice.
