Navigating the Body - Lisa 12:24:10 7/09/102 (0) I don't know a whole lot about art, but I do know about writing and the expression of feelings. When I saw Donimo, I was so moved by how graphic those images were. It said so much to me about the quality of life, the sacredness or lack of in terms of a woman's body and how easily reversed female subjectivity is to that of an object particularly in the statement, "I am a specimen." Extraordinary work with a powerful message! Navigating the Body - jennifer 00:25:30 4/26/100 (0) I enjoyed this work because it was visually dynamic, easily accessable, and had a strong message. Susan, thank you for your wonderful work, I enjoyed it. I have sent your site to many friends who will enjoy your work as well as your message. HIV-TV - Nathan 14:30:48 3/14/100 (0) Keith, I was going to write you a personal note, but since no one has mentioned you in this discussion, I thought I would just comment here. I viewed your document source. I hope you don't mind. It was refreshing to see someone writing their own code instead of using software generated code. Also, I notice you do this on your site. Bravo! It's brillant! HIV-TV - Nathan 12:43:13 3/14/100 (1) In traveling the internet and through the aid of http://www.lavenderlinks.com/topics/farout.htm found this comment on the bottom of their page: "The featured graphic is from HIV TV at CyberKino (18+), which contains some of the most moving and best-produced work we've seen on the Web in a long time." I followed the link and found my way to and thru the makers site and should comment their site is a work of art in of itself and ended up at QAR and viewed HIV-TV. I must say the comment was (more) Re: HIV-TV - Keith 20:57:30 3/14/100 (0) Thank you for your kind words, Nathan. Yes, our code is all handwritten. Understanding the code, and what can be done with it, gives me ideas about how to present Hank's images and Trebor's words in ways which are, hopefully, challenging and sympathetic. Mirrorwound : wound of layers and subtexts - Amatul 07:08:48 3/02/100 (0) layers and subtexts both visual and viceral please the poet or the artist's jaundiced eye I "read" you loud and clear a hug to you my dear - thank you for breaking the Bitground! (Links) stones - Geoffrey Gilbert 08:40:52 12/26/99 (0) nice — I like the relative quietness of presentation: keeping sensation small without thereby overmanaging it. wonder how I feel about the place of queer utopia being childhood. Yes that describes something - that moment before we noticed just how much spiky pain is out there - but I want too to recognise the places within a disillusioned 28 year old world in which our pleasures can be lodged. An inspiration to both budding web-artists and poets stunning work quicksilver :-) - lil 08:12:41 11/24/99 (1) yet again you've outdone yourself quicksilver. your talents show themselves in even newer and better ways than i've seen before - you've truly found the perfect medium to explore the complexities of an avatar's existence. i especially the love the highly personal nature of your work and i guess it helps me to know you a little better than your spoken words could ever tell me - so thank you for inviting me to see your work!!! Re: stunning work quicksilver :-) - QuickSilver 22:34:19 11/24/99 (0) Thanks indeed - hi praise from a tokyo queer_curatorial hotshot such as yourself lil !!! Say tuned for the next MirrorWound Mututation. Extended identity requires some fairly serious back end support (no pun sweetie) and i'm about to finally reap the benefits of signing away my soul to the corporate sector .... getting access to our Oracle database so future MirrorWound Animations will be able to evolve *realtime* depending on how the users move about the site .. what they move (yes moveable (more) thanks Glenn - QuickSilver 21:23:28 11/23/99 (2) Thanks for your compliments Glenn -- funny to hear how MirrorWound worked for you -- for the viewer is indeed meant to get sucked in by the eye candy. It was also interesting for me to read the Juror comments - esp Carla Wolf's passage. MirrorWound was not designed as an "artwork" -- it's only being framed after the fact, so i was bursting to see where an exercise of this kind does not work (in the context of being viewed as art ?). I'm not sure whether or not these boundaries/ distictions are (more) Re: thanks Glenn - cadilla 02:02:41 10/13/102 (0) : Thanks for your compliments Glenn -- funny to hear how MirrorWound worked for you -- for the viewer is indeed meant to get sucked in by the eye candy. What a refreshing piece of Queer art, and I do mean Queer. I was expecting the usually Gay aesthetic, with muscled boys and erect penises, considering the title of the exhibition, but instead was streamed across the net the most amazing flash animations I've ever seen. Sure the pretty moving pictures was what got me interested initially, but after finishing the series I have come away with something a lot deeper. Stones - Dina 05:04:24 11/17/99 (0) The Shockwave presentation of "Stones" had an unexpected impact on me. It brought me to a new understanding of the prejudice that gay men/women/couples suffer at the hands of the same testosterone-laden males who cat-call and whistle at women. I drew a parallel between the experiences of the couple in the poem and the experiences of women all over the world who think twice before going out alone, who constantly look over their shoulders to see who's coming, and feel threatened by men who (more) Brian White's "Stones" poems - Craig 19:07:48 11/15/99 (0) I came across Brian White's Shockwave poems Y2Gay and was totally blown away. His words are very powerful, and the Shockwave presentation adds even more punch. It's all quite moving, and my heart is still somewhere up in my throat. Brian's words opened up many old wounds in me, describing incredibly familiar experiences and expressing feelings and emotions that had previously had no voice. I'm still a bit dizzy--still absorbing and metabolizing what he has communicated.
